Man drowns in vat of Glenfiddich

Written By: Bob - Jan• 12•12

I wonder how long it took him to fight off his would-be rescuers:

A man has killed himself by leaping into a vat of whisky at the Glenfiddich Distillery.

Brian Ettles, 46, drowned after he threw himself inside the 50,000-litre tank.

Paramedics and firefighters were called to the scene but the father-of-two died inside the wooden vat on Saturday.

Yes, I know it’s a tragedy. But it’s also one hell of a way to go (h/t Maetenloch at Ace’s place).

He had to get out three times to use the bathroom…

    50,000-litre tank

What a waste … of whisky

Alcohol is density 0.78, water is 1.0. So depending on strength the barrel was full of a density ~0.9 liquid.

He may have jumped in wanting to swim in the whiskey; if so he learned pretty quick that you can’t float in whiskey.
