Remember when a Republican was President, dissent was the highest form of patriotism, and having the right to share your opinion on the issues of the day without being attacked for it was a key demand of the far left?
When they’re in office, that no longer applies.
A Chicago politician said he will block Chick-fil-A from opening a restaurant in his ward, following anti-gay marriage remarks by the fast food chain’s president.
Alderman Joe Moreno, who represents Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, plans to use his aldermanic privilege, a Chicago tradition in which City Council members defer to aldermen on local matters, to block the restaurant’s permit.
“It’s a very diverse ward– economically, racially, and diverse in sexual orientation,” Moreno told ABCNews.com. “We’ve got thriving businesses and we want more but at the very least don’t discriminate against our LGBTQ folks.”
Moreno is not alone in standing up to the fast food restaurant, whose president Dan Cathy came under scrutiny after he told the Baptist Press he was “guilty as charged” when it came to supporting “the biblical definition of the family unit.”
Boston Mayor Thomas Menino sent Cathy a letter informing him “There is no place for discrimination on Boston’s Freedom Trail and no place for your company alongside it.”
The gay rights gestapo does not respect the Cathy family’s promotion of traditional family values as understood in the Bible, and mirrored in other faiths, that defines marriage as between a man and a woman and views homosexuality as a sin. These are not minority views, and even if they were, easily qualify in this nation as speech protected under the First Amendment.
What these politicians–uniformly Democrats–are attempting to do is discriminate against the Cathy family and their company over their protected views. There is not evidence whatsoever that the Cathy family or Chick-Fil-A has discriminated against employees for their sexual orientation. There is no evidence that the family or company has discriminated against their suppliers or customers either. They have violated no laws, nor civil rights. They’ve simply expressed a view that these progressive Democrats do not want heard.
What we are seeing from these Democratic politicians are unconstitutional and illegal attempts to discriminate against the Cathy family and their company for the religious beliefs and opinions.
This is clearly unconstitutional, and just the latest attempt by the far left to suppress the rights of those with whom they disagree. I hope that the ACLU is preparing legal challenges to these overt attacks on the First Amendment.
