My boss Roger Simon over at PJ Media made the Drudge Report this morning for daring to ask for an appropriate response to the Benghazi consulate attack: the resignation of Barack Hussein Obama:
I won’t hear what I’d like to hear at the presidential foreign policy debate Monday.
What I’d like to hear is Barack Obama resigning over Benghazi, the most extreme public mishandling of an attack on American personnel ever, certainly in my lifetime. If I (or most people) had been president and something like that happened on my (our) watch — and then I had lied about it myself while urging others to cover up — I would be so ashamed of myself I wouldn’t be able to come out in public.
But that’s not what happened. In fact, the reverse occurred. The president acted as if it was Mitt Romney’s fault for ever bringing the subject up. And he had a willing co-conspirator in the morally stunted Candy Crowley.
Obama’s outrage during the second debate even at being questioned on his response to the terrorist killings is one of the ugliest displays of narcissism I have ever witnessed from a politician and certainly the ugliest if you consider the ramifications of his behavior.
That the mainstream media ignored this reaction is a testament to their enduring pathology. Or perhaps to a secret longing for the divine right of kings.
But it doesn’t matter. If Barack Obama does not resign on Monday, his reputation will be destroyed forever, even if he wins a second term, because Benghazi will not go away.
Read that last line again.
If Barack Obama does not resign on Monday, his reputation will be destroyed forever, even if he wins a second term, because Benghazi will not go away.
While the consulate attack was underway, Ambassador Chris Stephens had gone missing and we knew Americans were being killed, one would have expected the President of the United States to have pulled out every available tool at his disposal to affect a rescue, or at the minimum, a military interdiction making it too costly for the attack to continue. As we now know, a U.S. drone was overhead during the attack. We knew where the terrorists were. They could have been cut off or killed a hundred times over.
We would hope that a President, concerned for the people he put in harm’s way, would have used diplomatic threats, warnings, and cajoling to the militias and government (such as it is) on the ground in Libya. We would hope that he would have made impassioned personal calls to the leaders of allied nations with intelligence or special operations forces in Benghazi or within striking distance.
Considering the seven-hour length of the attack, Obama could have easily dispatched American naval power from anywhere in the Mediterranean or eastern mid-Atlantic, or ground-based air assets from as far away as Italy, England, and Germany. It’s even reasonable to believe that if the President had asked Israel for Mossad or IDF support, that they might have been willing to attempt a rescue despite how badly he’s damaged our relationship with them.
But Barack Obama did not get on the phone with Prime Minister David Cameron, or Benjamin Netanyahu, or Mario Monti, or any other leader in the area that could have offered support or at least allowed us to launch our forces based in their countries to stop the attack, or attempt a rescue mission.
No, Barack Obama did none of these things. It’s hard to do anything with your eyes closed.
While American lives were in danger in Benghazi and the battle raged, Barack Obama went to bed. He had campaign stops in Las Vegas and Denver that were more important.
Barack Obama went to bed with an American Ambassador missing as the result of a terrorist attack and the attack still underway with other American lives still in jeopardy. Obama was in dreamland , snoring away in his comfortable White House bed, protected by layers of Secret Service security, long before our last man fell.
Barack Obama had to prepare for something much more important to him than the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens, or diplomat Sean Smith, or private security contractors Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods, the two former SEALs that rushed in to try to save American lives.
Barack Obama had a very important campaign event in Sin City, before hoping over to Denver.
He had to be properly refreshed for his campaign appearances, so that he could give speeches and sign books.
Barack Obama didn’t lead.
Once again, Americans paid with their lives because of his incompetence, his arrogance, and his misplaced priorities. Hillary Clinton—who also bears responsibility for this debacle—famously warned us that Barack Obama wasn’t ready for the proverbial 3:00 AM phone call.
What none of us could have foreseen is that Obama, having heard that call for seven hours, starting well before dark, refused to consider it more important that being “fresh” for his campaign fundraiser.
Barack Obama made his position perfectly, manically clear.
Barack Obama decided that he’d rather Americans die so he can get a good night’s sleep. He doesn’t deserve a White House as much as he does an orange jumpsuit in a cold, gray cell.
