The saddest truth in politics is that people get the leaders they deserve

Reuter’s Barbara Liston is just the latest media hack to try to bury George Zimmerman by falsifying the narrative

Trayvon Martin died with traces of marijuana in his body and 2/3s of the ingredients for a street drug called “lean” in his possession. He died attacking a man with a gun. That does not usually turn out well.

I don’t follow the George Zimmerman Murder 2 case drama in great detail at the moment because there isn’t much going on that is noteworthy until the next court appearance, but a line in a new Reuters story attempting to frame the circumstances that led to the case jumped out at me as being patently false:

George Zimmerman, who is white and Hispanic, is charged with shooting and killing the unarmed, black Martin as he walked through a gated community in Sanford, Florida, in February.

Reuters writer Barbara Liston is entitled to her own opinion, but not her own facts.

If all Trayvon Martin was doing was doing when he was shot was walking, this would have been a case no one outside of Sanford, Florida heard about, a nearly open-and-shut case. George Zimmerman would have been arrested that night and charged, quickly tried, and perhaps sentenced to prison already.

But that isn’t reality, or even close to it.

As all witnesses and forensic evidence show—without deviation or exception—Trayvon Martin was not shot and killed “as he walked through a gated community.” He was killed in a close-quarters hand-to-hand fight on the ground with George Zimmerman.

Liston can make all sorts of biased arguments if she desires to prosecute Zimmerman in the media. She can cast doubt on his explanation of why he fired his weapon. She can argue that the injuries he sustained while beating beaten up by Trayvon Martin didn’t justify a lethal force response. She can even try to claim Trayvon was “just standing his ground” when he attacked Zimmerman, if she wants.

What she cannot do is make up her own facts. Liston is blatantly, purposefully lying, and she deserves to be called out on it.

But since she is from a major media source she will likely get away with her lies as there are very few voices in the wild that can call her to task for her lie.

How can you be white and hispanic?
Is that like being black and white?

Or, is this like calling someone black and Irish? Extraneous.

    Or, maybe “black and American”?

In any other context Zimmerman would be categorized in the media as Hispanic. But that’s not nearly as sexy, hate-crime-wise, as white. So while unable to ignore the Hispanic part, the white has to come first.

Much as Barack Obama is never described by the media as “White and Black.” In most cases progs adhere to the One Drop Rule, unless the narrative requires a person of pallor to be responsible.

There are many interesting things about Trayvon that haven’t penetrated the media monopoly. The most interesting is, I think, is about what he was up to, what he was drinking, and all the gang stuff he was involved with. see
