I tuned in late just as the capcon guy was reading the pre-jump check list to Baumgartner. I didn’t realize till later that “capcon” was Joe Kittenger. Making Col. Kittenger a part of the event was a class act on Baumgartner’s part as well as Red Bull.

Was it an accident that Baumgartner failed to break the record for longest (time) free fall?

  2. Dave says:

An “accident”? If you are insinuating something, then just say it.

Joe had a drogue shoot back in 1960 for stabilization and fell slower. Felix was going for speed and covered the distance faster. Combine that with the fact that Felix had a fogged (frosted) visor and was unsure of his altitude and pulled the chute earlier than planned and there you have it.

Also – I think the picture used on the blog post was actually from a jump earlier this year and NOT from yesterday’s jump.

It’s just like the old space program … with better video

Yup. The photo Bob used was not from the jump on Sunday. Here’s a link to the photo Bob needs. ;-)
