Russian meteor entering Earth’s atmosphere caught on video

Written By: Bob - Feb• 15•13

That must have been stunning to witness, but the driver in the vehicle recording it was unflappable. Hundreds of people are being treated for injuries, almost all of which seem related to effects of the meteor’s shock wave, though some meteorite fragments are reported to have hit.

We’re supposed to be treated to an asteroid on a near-miss path this afternoon, but “experts”—the same guys who never saw this meteor coming—says the events are unrelated and the asteroid will not strike the planet.

The guys driving is scarier than the Meteorite!

“caught on tap” Was it in a bar?

If seen about 20 dash cam videos of this thing…. WTF is up with Russians and their dash cams???

All very exciting. Anytime the night sky lights up like the daytime (or in this case, early morning) it’s always a spectacular event.

No wonder our ancient ancestors would freak out over these things.

    • Dashboard video recorders are very popular in Russia for 2 reasons: 1 – the cops are corrupt as all hell, and unless you get it on video, good luck proving anything, and 2 – people drive like complete jackasses, so video comes in very handy for insurance cases.

Some Russian auto shops even outfit cars with 4-way DVR’s – front + back + looking out the driver’s window (recording conversations with cops) + interior.

In this case, though, corrupt Russian cops & asshole Russian drivers = big win in terms of video content!

Amazing what a rock maybe one meter in diameter going 9000+ feet per second can do! Congress should ban any rock going faster than 9 fps as not what the cave man saw as common to the era.

Are you sure it was a “russian” meteor? Looked sort of hungarian to me.

Why does the date / time stamp indicate six thirty on New Years Eve?

NASA did not know anything about this because they were too busy doing outreach to the muslim world.

  8. Critch says:

I have it on good authority that it was Vlad Putin skydiving…

    Bush’s fault.

  10. Klingonwork says:

The answer is obvious…we need to ban all meteors immediately.

Assault meteors, should be banned altogether as an affront to public safety.

    All remaining meteors should:

-Those which break up into fragments, should be limited to 7 fragments each.

-Should be registered with federal governments after a thorough background check that they have not caused craters before.

-Only the military should have possession of meteors in excess of 1 ton.

-Private ownership of meteors should be limited to 500 lbs or less.

-Meteors can only be allowed at designated impact sites.

-God should not be allowed to just throw them around willy nilly for his amusement

-You may not photoshop photos of Dear Leader skeet shooting meteors

-All meteors must be locked up at night in households with children

…finally some sane rational responsible meteor laws.

that is toooo funny!! don’t forget the carbon credits you will need to buy for the vapor trail that will undoubtedly contribute to global warming

      • Klingonwork says:

        Yes good point too…

-said thrower of meteors…God…shall be fined $1 mil per day for not cleaning up vapor trail, and shall not be allowed to participate in “Earth day” celebrations.

You can take my meteor from my cold dead hands!

      I got your back!

      Death to slavery!

I have to say, I like listening to his domestic Russian pop radio station while he chases this thing around Chelyabinsk and the surrounding area. Oversynthesized beats, unfamiliar language, strange roads. Reminds me of driving in Germany and listening to their Europop stations…

Thanks for posting this video; I had not seen how close this thing was via news reports. Also, for an earlier question, I found a good Duluth News Tribune article explaining why so many Russians have dash-cams:

I want to congratulate all the Russians who provided these remarkable videos of this meteorite event.

  13. Be warned Bob — BigSis ain’t allowing all those Moisin Nagants and Tula works ammo boxes to fly off the shelves in America for nothing. The next DHS minion talking point (and I’ve already zeroed in on the first two-legged drone who will spew it) WILL BE OMG, Putin is arming America’s bitter clingers to fight their own government!

BigSis has got to have at least a few neocons without foreign passports (and I mean Canadian, not those of a certain Middle Eastern country on the Med) on her side when the poop hits the fan. What better way than to appeal to their age old fears of Vlad the Bad’s Eternal Evil Empire?
