Sixty mayors to gang up on gun companies unless they stop defending their rights

Written By: Bob - Feb• 01•13

Wikipedia is sometimes quite useful, especially if you need a good, generic definition of a common term, such as extortion:

Extortion (also called blackmail*, shakedown, outwresting, and exaction) is a criminal offence of unlawfully obtaining money, property, or services from a person, entity, or institution, through coercion. Refraining from doing harm is sometimes euphemistically called protection. Extortion is commonly practiced by organized crimegroups. The actual obtainment of money or property is not required to commit the offense. Making a threat of violence which refers to a requirement of a payment of money or property to halt future violence is sufficient to commit the offense. Exaction refers not only to extortion or the unlawful demanding and obtaining of something through force,[1] but additionally, in its formal definition, means the infliction of something such as pain and suffering or making somebody endure something unpleasant.[2]

Odd, how that definition of extortion sounds very similar to what Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak and a gang of other left-wing mayors are proposing to do to firearm and ammunition companies that don’t accept the Democratic Party line on gun control:

Mayor R.T. Rybak has introduced a way for cities to gain leverage in their efforts to pass stricter gun control laws across the country.

Rybak told members of the City Council’s Public Safety and Civil Rights Committee that he and mayors from approximately 60 cities are taking a closer look at the companies that manufacture the guns and ammunition that cities buy for police officers.

He said over the past eight years the city has spent nearly $800,000 on guns and ammunition. Rybak, who supports stricter gun control laws, wants to work with firearms manufacturers to reduce gun-related crime and violence. He wants to know if those companies also are lobbying against tighter gun laws.

“If we find out they’re not partners, and if we find out they’re working against us, then we all ought to have a conversation as taxpayers about whether our dollars should be used for people who are not working to reduce gun violence,” Rybak said.

Let’s do a little math.

There are roughly 800,000 law enforcement officers in the United States, and I’d be surprised if the 60 mayors included represented any more than a quarter of them, or 200,000.

There are 80+ million or more gun owners, more every day, and the bulk of those are new guns owners, very sensitive to the assault on the Constitution to con men like Rybak that insist on more gun control even as the crime rate continues to steadily decline from one decade to the next.

Who has more purchasing power, a few dozen mayors representing cities that equip (at most) a couple of hundred thousand police officers, or 80+ million gun owners?

I’d frankly like to see the major gun and ammunition companies do what Barrett did a number of years ago, and turn the tables on these petty tyrants, refusing to do business with cities that infringe upon the rights of their citizens. It’s morally the right thing to do, and likely to generate more sales than they would lose.

Besides, no better than most big cities train their officers, removing guns from the police might be the best thing companies could do in the interests of public safety.

Exactly what I was thinking…good riddance.

They act like all this Horseshit is going to bring gun violence down…retards.

As someone working to get out of Minneapolis this comes as no surprise. This city is the little, blue, Chicago style, core of Minnesota. Thankfully the state legislature has strong preemption on gun laws.

Rybak is not running for reelection here. My guess is so he can attempt a move onto a bigger stage.

  3. LordChamp says:

I think the manufactures should install gun locks on all guns sold to these mayors cities that would require a higher authority to unlock them onsite before they can be fired.

When a cop draws his gun someone above him must unlock it before it can be fired. I think that is fair and demonstrates their willingness to submit to “reasonable” gun control.

Especially since the rulers of these cities know what is best for everyone.

Bob your ears must be really burning today!

    From Doug Ross;

    Status of gun industry

Attention F.B. fans: to follow will be several IMPORTANT Info updates about the status of the gun industry currently, followed by an INVENTORY UPDATE: We traveled to Texas for Industry meetings concerning the shortages, here’s what we were told.

Smith & Wesson-is running at Full capacity making 300+ guns/day-mainly M&P pistols. They are unable to produce any more guns to help with the shortages.

RUGER: Plans to increase from 75% to 100% in the next 90 days.

FNH: Moving from 50% production to 75% by Feb 1st and 100% by March 1. Remington-Maxed out!

    Armalite: Maxed out.

DPMS: Can’t get enough parts to produce any more product.

COLT: Production runs increasing weekly…bottle necked by Bolt carrier’s.

LWRC:Making only black guns, running at full capacity…can’t get enough gun quality steel to make barrels.

Springfield Armory: Only company who can meet demand but are running 30-45 days behind.

AMMO: Every caliber is now Allocated! We are looking at a nation wide shortage of all calibers over the next 9 months. All plants are producing as much ammo as possible w/ of 1 BILLION rounds produced weekly. Most is military followed by L.E. and civilians are third in line.

MAGPUL is behind 1 MILLION mags, do not expect any large quantities of magpul anytime soon.

RELOADERS… ALL Remington, Winchester, CCI & Federal primers are going to ammo FIRST. There are no extra’s for reloading purposes… it could be 6-9 months before things get caught up. Sorry for the bleak news, but now we know what to expect in the coming months. Stay tuned, we’ll keep you posted…

    Related commentary from Bob Owens:

They didn’t know when they’d be getting anything back in stock, from magazines to rifles to pistols. Manufacturers were running full-bore, but couldn’t come close to keeping up with market demand. It wasn’t just the AR-15s, the AK-pattern rifles, the M1As, and the FALs that were sold out. It really hit me when I realized that the World War-era M1 Garands, M1 carbines, and Enfield .303s were gone, along with every last shell. Ubiquitous Mosin-Nagants—of which every gun store always seems to have 10-20—were gone. So was their ammo. Only a dust free space marked their passing. I’ve never seen anything like it.

Every weapon of military utility designed within the past 100+ years was gone. This isn’t a society stocking up on certain guns because they fear they may be banned. This is a society preparing for war.

Barack Obama, Dianne Feinstein and the rest of the Statists have done more to promote gun ownership than the NRA ever did. Well done, Democrats!

  7. Comrade X says:

“Folks, we are in the midst of a perfect storm that’s making it hard to find those AR style semi rifles we’ve grown to like so much. In addition it’s darn near impossible to to find ammo to practice with. This graph comes from an article in Guns and Ammo on the very same topic.

I consider myself to be a gun nerd. Yep, completely immersed in the firearms culture and have been for many years now. While I’m not as bad as the savant-like mouth breather that would look at a 30 year old sniper rifle and quote chapter and verse on the various permutations of scope turret cap development, I do consider myself a somewhat reasonably knowledgeable individual (RKI) when it comes to trends in the industry.

That said, I’ve lived through several ups and downs in the market having seen fluctuations in supply and demand over the past 25 years or so. What we’ve seen in the last 3 months however I have NEVER seen…..

  8. Bill says:

I’m absolutely behind the idea of starving the government beast of resources. They’re using our tax money to purchase tools of repression from companies they don’t want dealing with taxpayers?

    The chutzpa of these putz’s.

  9. Partsfreak says:

What a joke. O.K. mayor, Don’t buy guns for your cops. It’s not going to hurt the gun manufacturers, they are making more money than they ever thought possible. Best part about it is its all because of you! We will more than make up for the drop in the bucket you think they will lose. Remember Chick-fil-a. That nonsense backfired and that was nothing compared to what is about to happen when you try to shake down the gun makers. Just wait until your police force finds out they are going the way of one bullet Barney. Think they will support you? Are you aware the government is buying enough ammo to support another military and probably is?
PULLLLEEEEZE. If you think you are the playground bully you may find you are the one leaving without your lunch money chump.

  10. Norris says:

Just imagine if a few of the duty weapon manufacturers merely slowed down their delivery to Chicago, New York, San Fran and a few other cities…!

FYI, I knew of a guy in Milwaukee who did volume reloading out of his basement and garage for police departments and ranges. Are there enough components (cases, primer, bullets, powder) out there to make it worthwhile to become licensed to resell ammo on a small scale?

  11. Veritas says:

Perhaps the firearms industry should ban together and play in kind. By that I mean quadruple the prices for all agencies and agents of those organizations advocating restrictions on firearms including the federal government, state and local governments. Do the same to any business and contact all other businesses to join them. First it was tobacco and liquor, now its firearms, what next soft drinks, food, cars?

  12. Jujen Kai says:

I’ve said it in other places and I’ll say it here now: The firearms manufacturers need to get together and say, “Screw the Police Departments and the city contracts. Let’s just upgrade our sales to civilians – thereby tripling our profits – and if the cities want their boys armed with Jennings, Raven, or Lorcin, they can have it.”

    • Rob Crawford says:

And face federal prosecutors over forming a “cartel”.

    • Janice Greer says:

Better learn who bought your firearms manufacturers. Its not what you think it is. None of this is what you think it is. Welcome to the “Grand Illusion”

  13. Treker says:

President Obama won only the blue dots in this country . Those deep blue dots are major cities . The rest of the nation is deep red . It makes perfect sense that 60 mayors to stand with their dear leader. All of your money will be poured into cities.
We are at war , no sexy blue/gray uniforms this time . Just urban and rural. The rural should stop feeding the urban, that includes food , ammo , water, fuel, minerals , electricity . Make them keep their sewage, garbage and prisoners.

  14. Pat Hines says:

South Carolina 3rd District Congressman Jeff Duncan has written an official letter to Remington, inviting them to relocate all of their remaining New York operations to South Carolina.

I’ve asked him to write to every gun maker in the northeast to extend them all the same invitation.

  15. Fight islam Now says:

    Bob

Every person that buys guns and ammo should DEMAND that gun and ammo manufacturers STOP SELLING TO POLICE AND local, state and federal agencies that are agitating for confiscation.

GUN STORES should STOP SELLING TO POLICE! Refuse their business, do not honor their warranties

DEMAND that companies benefiting the most from the second amendment STOP selling or honoring warranties in kalifornia, NY and any local, state and federal agency seeking to deny rights to their citizens.

If a mayor or governor is a member of “totalitarian assholes against guns” their state should be denied ANY firearms or ammo or service.

ALSO – DEMAND all companies CANCELL the DHS contracts. Disarming the police and feds is the best way to insure the safety of the citizenry and freedom for our posterity.

Prevent civil war by disarming the police.

One last thing…..it’s time to research the home addresses of ALL POLICE OFFICERS and publish the lists. They can go after my 4473′s – I want to know where they keep THEIR FAMILIES.

    • Fight islam Now says:

I would like to suggest that citizens who have police officers in their neighborhoods publish the addresses. Even post pics of the house(s) and family members.

Police are allowed to cloak their addresses to protect them from the consequences of their thuggish behavior. It is time to create a database of police officer addresses and make it known.

When the battle starts – it moves immediately to THEIR houses

Soooo, Comrad X, is your belief based on being their “friend” or based on being one of your county elite or is it a statement of hope that you won’t be eaten last?

Do your local police steal guns from otherwise law abiding citizens committing no crime but possession of a firearm?
What will be different in a month???

    • Comrade X says:

A friend is a friend is a friend! In the fight against tyranny true friends may be hard to find but to paint one/any group (i.e. law enforcement, politicians, Muslim, etc) as all those a member/part of as the enemy will be eliminating a potential source for friends for sure.

Who is a friend IMHO isn’t determine by who they are to me but by what they do; not as a group but as an individual.

      How did the saying go;

“First they came for the communists,
      and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a communist.

Then they came for the socialists,
      and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
      and I didn’t speak out because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

      Then they came for me,
and there was no one left to speak for me.”

Hmmm, communists, socialists, trade unionists, groups that some reading this would say are the enemy but as for me if any individual of those groups stands against tyranny personally I would not look at them as a foe, tyranny is my foe and whoever purports it for whatever reason is the enemy and those opposed to tyranny will need all of the friends they can find, methinks.

How many people do rampant/wanton Guns & Gunnery kill? And how many do cunning, deceit, connivance, thievery, beggary, barefaced lying and so forth kill? Hands up those who cannot do the simple arithmetic. Yes, those so handicapped would be the “60 Mayors” because they are ALL of cunning, deceit, connivance, thievery, beggary, barefaced lying and so forth. This then is the miracle within humanity. The Blind-Blinded Human, oka The Partial/Mesmerised Human, who claim and demand that they are of hindsight, insight and foresight and all because these blind-blinded humans, factually known as The Stupid-Dumb, are similarly deluded and who had voted for these “60 Mayors” types. And in a gung-ho, festive spirit too. Humans, the ones who destruct and all because construction is only for The Other whereas reality, according to Gandhi, is “To be the change one seeks”. Hold steady folks… Let the Oligarchy make its move. Then we shall see what the American Patriot is made of. In the meantime, enjoy life and savor those peaceful moments among friends and family. By the way, the eyes of the whole world are on the Americans…

The Law Enforcement and military guys are our neighbors and friends. I have both and they are quality people. I am confident that hese men and women will defend ARTICLE 2 along with me and you.

The FBI, HS, CIA and all of the other alphabet soup agencies have a few rogues at the top, but most of the officers are just like you and me when they are at home. They too just want to be left alone. Many of them are God fearing people who wish to do the right thing.

For now I am at PEACE and I am enjoying a good shot of Jack Daniels and reading the novel, “War and Peace.”

This struggle is about TRUTH and LIBERTY; its not about guns, mass shootings, psychotropic drugs or upside down kids suffering depression. These issues are smoke screens promoted by the “Talking Heads” of you local News stations. Why does it take two newscasters to complete one sentence?!…. ;)

Sometime when good old fashion moralities were stuffed into the junk closet and conveniently forgotten like an old train set and now we Americans are faced with the Devil demanding his due. What else should you have expected?

You gray hairs know exactly what I am talking about and now its time for you to slay the dragon that you created. Did you not know throw caution to the wind and opened Pandora’s Box. You were told not to go there, but you did. Your lack of self control and discipline disarmed all of you and now death is at your neighbor’s doorstep and soon he is to knock on yours. I am guilty as well.

It’s not too late, but you must prepare for the imminent confrontation. How will you be remembered? Will history remember you as a coward or a brave heart?

    Good day

Every gun sold has a trigger lock. Locks can’t replace intelligence.

    • SDN says:

Trigger locks make the gun useless for self-defense. Period. End of sentence. Therefore, any requirement for a trigger lock is an infringement of the Second Amendment.

  23. Veritas says:

Found out real fast this is not a place to post the TRUTH. Maybe you still have time before TRUTH is revealed. Still holding out in faith, hope, and love. As long as the Earth turns, we still have remedy. UCC Code= the buying and selling of souls. Peace to you brother, may your actions prove your honor.

Rybak is an up-and-comer in the Democrat party (gave a nomination speech for Obama), his city is in Black Muslim Congressman Keith Ellestad’s district. The City Council has more Green Party members than Republicans – it’s far left wacko-ville. I think the firearms makers should treat Minneapolis as Barett treats California: we won’t sell to you, we won’t service your weapons, your warranties are void. Hey, Rybak, I hear Red China makes pistols, maybe buy from your buddies.
