UK Daily Mail defames NRA with claim Sandy Hook shooter was a member

Written By: Bob - Mar• 28•13

I came home from a day out with the family to an incredibly ignorant headline run by the UK Daily News, Information collected from Newtown killer’s house shows he WAS in the NRA – but gun group denies he and his mother were members.

The simple fact of the matter—easily verified by even the most junior cub reporter—is that classes offered by NRA-certified instructors are open to the public, and do not require an NRA membership. I know this firsthand, as I’ve taken a total of 5 classes (starting with a gun safety class when I was a boy up into my late-30s) without ever having been a member.

Again, no NRA membership is required to take the class, the book is given freely to all attendees, and the certificate of completion is written out for everyone who passes. None of that is remotely construed as becoming a member, which any reporter could have verified with one simple phone call.

It’s shoddy journalism at best, or at worst, an intentional effort to defame the NRA. My bet is on the latter.

It seems these days, without shoddy journalism, we wouldn’t have any journalism at all.

totally the latter. when has fact checking ever been a priority for any news company? it’s all political agendas and sensationalism

At this point we have to assume malevolent intent every time the media does this. They’ve burned their bridges and abdicated any last shreds of credibility and respect due them.

    They are the enemy.

And, if Lanza had been a member of the NRA? I bet he also had a Connecticut drivers license which is of more significance in this case than whether or not he belonged to the NRA. Shame on the state government for letting this sick kid drive. Think of how many lives would’ve been saved if Lanza had to walk to the elementary school carrying his arsenal and ammo.

Even if he was an NRA member, so what? Most of the spree shooters have been democrats, that doesn’t imply anything about the democrat party or its member in general.

I don’t see why not – it sure would have mattered if any of these guys had been Republicans or worse, Tea Partiers.

Oh, sorry… Democrats. Right, completely irrelevant. My bad.

OMG can you imagine the calls for total lockdown had he been GOP and NRA? Now that would have been icing on the cake for der Fuehrer and Piers. NRA folks would have been seen as mad flesh eating warmongers…

(Hold on gotta take another call)

[Hey buddy how are you?…wait they already are seen that way?…OK, thanks]

        never mind

This whole incident, the exploitation of the deaths and the media blast, has had two ideological driven agenda items.. the first, was to discredit and hreak the back of the NRA, as evidenced by the quick blame game, right out of the gate.. The second, is a universal firearms registry, which can then be used to confiscate and/or control gun owners… I’ve seem first hand, what the registry can do, and the open abuse that takes place when its implemented.. Canadian gun owners fought almost 2 decades to dump ours, and only were able to get rid of the rifle/shotgun part… Don’t make the same mistake we made, and believe politicians..
