I came home from a day out with the family to an incredibly ignorant headline run by the UK Daily News, Information collected from Newtown killer’s house shows he WAS in the NRA – but gun group denies he and his mother were members.
The simple fact of the matter—easily verified by even the most junior cub reporter—is that classes offered by NRA-certified instructors are open to the public, and do not require an NRA membership. I know this firsthand, as I’ve taken a total of 5 classes (starting with a gun safety class when I was a boy up into my late-30s) without ever having been a member.
Again, no NRA membership is required to take the class, the book is given freely to all attendees, and the certificate of completion is written out for everyone who passes. None of that is remotely construed as becoming a member, which any reporter could have verified with one simple phone call.
It’s shoddy journalism at best, or at worst, an intentional effort to defame the NRA. My bet is on the latter.
