What Bloomberg hath wrought: Colorado gun control blowback accelerates

Written By: Bob - Mar• 27•13

Everyone knew Magpul was going to take its jobs and nearly $90 million in taxes elsewhere  as a result of the state’s recent gun control laws. That was just the beginning of the rebellion. The blowback that has begun against Michael Bloomberg’s Colorado gun control bills is so massive that even the Washington Post is noticing it.

Hunters across the country are boycotting Colorado because of recent legislation meant to curtail gun violence.

Michael Bane, a producer for The Outdoor Channel, announced he will no longer film his four shows in Colorado, and hunters are joining the protests.

According to the Colorado Springs Gazette (http://tinyurl.com/cfbquoy ), hunting outfitters say people began cancelling trips after the legislation passed. The numbers are few, but growing.

If you follow that link to the Gazette, it is obvious that the New York-written legislation is going to have a significant multi-million or even billion dollar impact on the state.

Gun and hunting websites and forums are full of talk of boycotting the state, and hunting outfitters say people have begun cancelling trips here. It’s just a handful for now, but northwest Colorado hunting guide Chris Jurney expects more.

“There’s a united front of sportsmen that are tired of having their freedoms and liberties and fundamental rights taken away from them,” said Jurney, vice president of the Colorado Outfitters Association. “That kind of unity among sportsmen is going to be big and unfortunately for those of us who live here, we’re going to suffer the consequences of this misguided legislation.”

Legislation, drawn up in response to the Aurora theater shootings and other massacres, bans magazines that hold more than 15 bullets or magazine tube extensions for shotguns that are longer than 28 inches. Legislation also requires universal background checks, a state fee for background checks, regulation of concealed-carry training and regulations to remove guns from those convicted of domestic abuse.

Bane produces “Gun Stories,” the cable network’s most popular show, among others. He said in a recent letter to lawmakers, “We are relatively small potatoes in television, but our relocation of production will cost Colorado a little less than a million dollars in 2013.”

Wildlife recreation contributes $3 billion to the economy, directly sustaining 21,000 jobs. Out-of-state hunters account for about 15-percent of the licenses sold in the state, and if they decide to go somewhere else it affects not just the outfitters and guides, but the entire state economy, from the airlines that fly the hunters in, to the vehicle rentals/taxis, hotels, restaurants, etc.

Another $10.2 billion and 104,000 jobs are vendors in the larger outdoor recreation industry in the state that will feel a pinch as boycotts of the state expands. Through the interconnected nature of systems, everyone in the state will eventually suffer in some way, even the schools.

Colorado state Democrats rushed through a law written by the gun-grabbing minions of a New York billionaire, figuring his deep pockets would protect them long enough to get the law passed. They were right. Bloomberg did push his law through on the citizens of Colorado.

But where is he now? Now the Colorado Democrats who supported Bloomberg’s law will have to answer to their voters in coming elections.

The voters will have their revenge and push through an eventual repeal, but only after these laws cost the citizens of Colorado thousands of jobs and billions of dollars, without stopping a single crime, or saving a single life.

And they’ll still blame Conservatives, the media will broadcast this new ‘truth’ and they will still lie to the idiots who lap up every Imperial Pronouncement, and continue to steal elections.

So why are they going to give a rat’s tiny hiney about any of this? They’ll use it to lie more and gain more ‘votes’.

The campaign for 2014 has already begun. Hickenlooper and his Bloomberg paid stooges better enjoy their monopoly while they can. Many of Colorado’s rural sheriffs have said that they will not enforce the new gun laws. Most of the gun owning public will not comply either. To MagPul’s credit, they have offered priority to Colorado residents to purchase ten AR15 30 round standard capacity magazines. Everyone I know has taken advantage of this offer. Thousands of these soon to be banned magazines are flooding Colorado at this minute. My personal message to the liberals in control in Colorado is “bite me” in the most disrespectful way possible.

This assumes that our “representative” government actually cares for the consequences of its actions in regards to individuals. That is not the case. Should tax revenue fail to meet their desires, they’ll merely take more from the ever shrinking tax base. We will NOT be voting our way out of this and if you think we will, you’re delusional.

  4. Kacey Arnold says:

@John you are correct we will not be able to vote our way out of the mess the political elites leave. Because it does not matter who votes or how they vote, it only matters who counts the vote. But as a poli sci prof of mine once said “the bullet is the ultimate protest vote.” The mess will get cleaned up it will just be a mater of how we clean it up and at what cost.

  5. Steve says:

After the libs have bankrupted Colorado like they did California, they will just moe on to another state like a swarm of locust.

I am not part of a boycott. I just decided to take my vacations where I’m appreciated. My dollars will stay home before I take them to Colorado, my guns and equipment will travel over or around the state when I locate an outfitter in a more gun friendly state. Kind of like avoiding Illinois if you know what I mean.

Come hunting in Montana! Gorgeous scenery, tons of game, and our legislature is debating increasing firearms freedom, not decreasing it. Permitless concealed carry has passed the legislature and awaits the governor’s signature.

She knows what she’s talking about! MT is very pretty despite having (re)elected Tester & Baucus to the Senate.

“F”‘em, they get what they voted for. Maybe the Mexican illegals swarming the state can save them.

  9. mytralmann says:

In the 1960s the most powerful lobbyist in the state worked for the Colorado Cattleman’s Association. ( I knew him). Now the state is in the hands of the left and is unlikely to change since a few urban areas outvote the smaller rural population. A few years ago in Aspen, my last visit, Fox News had been erased from every hotel TV. As for Bloomberg, it is said here in NY that his income after taxes is more than one bilion a year and he has 22 bilion in assets. He gives over 400 million a year in “charity” . the money he spent in Colorado and Illinois is less than he makes in a day. I don’t think he will quit and as John says, taxes will only rise to cover any losses. After Obama was elected over 60000 oil related jobs were lost in the state with out protest from the democrats, according to my friends in the oil business there. Momentum for gun laws is waning a little but it won’t go away and is only waiting for the next nut job massacre to be reignited. In fact Bloomberg is ready with ads etc in anticipation. This will be a long struggle, but I remain optimistic.

    If they did manage to take my guns away then Winston summed it up for me when he said;

“And we’ll fight them with the butt ends of broken beer bottles because that’s bloody well all we’ve got!”

This fight has only begun; how does it end? When only one side remains standing! This fight is to the death!

    Death before slavery!

In areas where guns are outlawed as well as areas of high unemployment crime rates historically escalate.

  18. Vance Cummings says:

I am boycotting all of the states and everything made in them if they are anti gun I will have nothing to do with them in any way I will not go to California as planned or Colorado or new York these were just a few places I was going to and now i never will go again because the laws will not change and so I will not change. they have started a war on freedom and this i will not tolerate. I will punish them without firing a Shot. literally I will financially strangle them to death if i can and I will not sell to people in these states this is war for me and if i can not win i will leave this country. Obama should have been impeached and tried for multiple murders but congress are cowards.

  19. A says:

if you know anyone in Colorado, ask them to vote these traitors out in 2014.

boycott the state. spend no money there.

  20. john says:

I’m in Colorado and trust me, these politicians do NOT speak for the majority. We’ve begun recall proceedings on a number of them already. That said, you people advocating running away from the problem should be ashamed of yourselves. Where exactly do you think totalitarianism will stop? Will it respect YOUR states boundaries should it succeed here? I’ll say it again, this fight is where it finds you. Unfortunately, I’m on the beachhead. You run if you want cowards, I’ll stand and fight. Sorry to be so direct Bob, I usually agree with your writings but in this case, You’re dead wrong. Stand the fuck up and fight gawddammit..

If Colorado becomes our Lexington, the question remains, will today’s patriots be on that “Concord road”?

John; if the people of Colorado make their stand; they will not be alone!

That’s just not being truthful. Colorado is now a blue state that voted for Obama twice over a republican. The pro-gun extremists are the tiny minority fringe in Colorado.

Things are changing. We just realized that we have to fight for our God given, inalienable rights that shall not be infringed every year.

      • john says:

“pro-gun extremists” eh?…. Way to shovel the rhetoric. Your ignorance is obvious in regards to the blue/red split in Co. Boulder and Denver are blue, the rest of us, not even close.

      Good for you John.
