Zimmerman attorney O’Mara attacks prosecutors for hiding key witness perjury

Written By: Bob - Mar• 26•13

If the prosecution and Martin family attorney gets less time in prison than the defendant in the George Zimmerman murder trial, then justice in Florida is dead.

George Zimmerman’s attorneys on Monday formally accused prosecutors of being unethical, saying that for seven months, they hid a pair of lies by their most important witness, and that they should be punished for it.

The allegations, spelled out in a new court pleading, mark a new low in the case.

Defense attorneys Mark O’Mara and Don West have complained for months about Assistant State Attorneys Bernie de la Rionda and John Guy, saying they have refused repeated requests to turn over key pieces of evidence. This time, they’ve asked Circuit Judge Debra S. Nelson to fine and admonish them.

The judge should throw the case out for lack of evidence, but it is likely better for all concerned that the case play out in court. Well, everyone with the possible exception of NBC News.

What is this ‘justice’ of which you speak?

I’m pretty sure that went extinct from the world at least 70 years ago.

What about charges of ethical misconduct with the Florida Bar? In my profession, I am obligated to notify my State Board if I become aware of ethics violations by other professional, or I, myself, am subject to ethics charges and fines. Don’t lawyers have similar obligations? Shouldn’t Zimmerman’s attorneys also pursue this venue as well, independently of the criminal case?

Any recent news updates regarding any rulings by the Judge over all the misdeeds and illegal behavior by the DA’s office?
