The saddest truth in politics is that people get the leaders they deserve

The NSA “scandal” isn’t important. Keep your eyes on the IRS plot, where the criminality lies.

All along the watchtower Princes kept the view While all the women came and went Barefoot servants, too

“There must be some kind of way out of here,”
Said the joker to the thief,
“There’s too much confusion,
I can’t get no relief.
Businessman they drink my wine,
Plowman dig my earth
None will level on the line, nobody offered his word, hey.”

“Ace” at Ace of Spades has built one of the more successful political blogs on a balanced combination of snark, community-building (who else can can boast of a community that proudly/ironically calls themselves “morons?”) and very insightful observations that a lot of folks simply miss.

Last night, I read (twice) a post he wrote called Snowden’s Looking a Little Dodgy, which was written in regards to the stories surrounding NSA leaker Edward Snowden that has been dominating the news cycle for the past few days. I’d suggest that you read it all and think over it’s ramifications.

The government must have a good reason for all of this. We don’t know what that reason is, but you’d have to be some kind of wild-eyed Birther type to think that a cover story that makes no sense at all is worth asking a few questions about.

So what I’m worried about here is that this Snowden doesn’t know what he’s talking about and has overhyped his disclosures, and that, in the coming days, we’ll find out that PRISM is less and less than he originally claimed it was. And then, the Institutional Class, having rubbished NSA-gate as also “akin to Birtherism,” will then take the IRS scandal to also be akin to Birtherism, and the EPA’s shellacking conservative groups with hundreds of thousands of dollars in costs for FOIA requests while freely providing them to liberal groups will be taken as akin to Birtherism, and suspicions about the James Rosen matter will be akin to Birtherism, and so on.

I am always fearful about seizing upon weak evidence especially when we have so much strong evidence — because mark my words, if the NSA scandal peters out, this will be the only scandal the Institutional Class will deign to discuss, and will categorize all other scandals as “like the so-called overblown NSA scandal.”

There is a distinct possibility Snowden’s story is being hyped by the Administration itself to divert us away from the real scandals—the joint ATF/EPA/FBI/IRS/OSHA/etc. harassment of Tea Party activists to cripple them organizations and prevent them from affecting the 2012 elections as they did the 2010 elections, for example—that should see the Obama Administration forced out of office.

The NSA scandal may be much ado about policy without criminality, distracting us from the real scandal an Administration that may have criminally abused their power across multiple Executive Branch agencies in order to effectively “steal” an election.

How do we know that the IRS (and I’m using that term as a loose identifier; it is in no way limited to just the IRS) scandal is where the fire is under all the smoke? By the Administration’s dogged determination to completely bury the issue and not give one inch.

Rep. Dave Camp, the Michigan Republican who chairs the House Ways and Means Committee, told a legal policy conference on Wednesday that his investigators still don’t know who inside the Obama administration first told IRS agents to aggressively target right-wing groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status.

But, he said, he and his Republican colleagues have confirmed the partisan program did not originate in the agency’s Cincinnati, Ohio office – something Democrats have claimed.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney has described the IRS’s ‘activity in Cincinnati’ as ‘line IRS employees in Cincinnati improperly scrutinizing 501(c)(4) [tax-exempt] organizations.’

‘We know it [the targeting] didn’t originate in Cincinnati,’ Camp said. ‘We still don’t know who did originate this.’

‘We have a lot of work to do,’ he told The Hill. ‘We’re not anywhere near being able to jump to conclusions. And there are a lot more people we have to talk to,’

But recent indications are that officials in Washington, either inside the IRS or higher up in the administration, had a hand in directing the activity of those Cincinnati agents.

We know, for a fact, that Tea Party groups were targets by multiple executive branch agencies for harassment and intimidation, and so we know on a logical level that orders for this coup d’etat camp from within the West Wing of the White House.

Forcing the media and Congress to focus on this scandal at the exclusion of everything else they would rather focus our attention on, is the only chance we have to get to the bottom of what can only be described as a direct assault on the electoral process by a sitting President.

Let me be very clear: Barack Obama would not be the current President of the United States if he had not directed executive branch agencies to criminally abuse their power in a broad conspiracy to target the Tea Party groups which decimated the Democrats in the House in the 2010 mid-term elections. This conspiracy was a frontal assault on the Constitution. Let’s force them to treat this plot as the crime it so clear is, and not just a political “scandal.”

Glen Beck is supposedly going to break some story in the next 24hrs that will be very damaging for both parties and the administration. I’ll take it with a grain of salt for now.

The truth is we no longer have a government that is “at the consent of the governed”, we are now a nation of subjects and the recent scandals have just rubbed our noses in that fact. We have whatever rights the government allows us. We have a positive outlook on our 2A because a body of people voted 5-4 to allow us to keep our 2A rights. What is the outcome had been different?

MD, CO, CT, and NY have enacted laws that clearly violate our 2A rights. This should never happen, laws that may unintentionally violate or rights are one thing, but ones that clearly do should never even be seriously considered by our legislatures.

We have been told that we only have a right to keep so much of our earnings. How much is to be determined by our betters, because “we didn’t earn that.” We are forced at gun point (why do you think the IRS needs AR-15s?)to support illegal aliens, subsidize foreign nations who mean us harm, and to fund the lavish lifestyle of the legislative elite.

  2. Gayle says:

None of these scandals will amount to anything if amnesty passes.

Keep your eyes on the prize.

  3. Donald Arey III says:

Sorry, this is a bit OT but the NRA just posted an interview with Cape Fear Arsenal on youtube. I thought you might be interested.

  4. Cole says:

Hate to be a Debbie Downer but these scandals won’t amount to anything. The masses have no clue. None. My 20-30 yr old friends on facebook? They’re playing Candy Crush and posting about the tiny bubble that is their lives. Even if the news reported this stuff, which it won’t, they wouldn’t pay attention. They wouldn’t notice us being shipped off in cattle cars. They are absolutely clueless. Sheep being eaten by wolves.

The Republicans don’t care about the treason and tyranny. The vast majority just want to grandstand and score political points. Even if they did, no attempt to remove Obama would pass a Democrat controlled Senate. And even if we got him out, every bad actor and would-be tyrant still have a cushy lifetime job in the various government agencies. Even if we push this hard enough to influence the midterm elections who are we putting in office? More turncoats like Christie and Rubio.

We will never get to the bottom of this. We have never gotten to the bottom of any of Obama’s high crimes and misdemeanors. They lead nowhere. His puppet masters will keep him a teflon enigma until he leaves the White House.

Our elections are rigged, our media is controlled, our entire lives are spied upon, and they are doing everything they can to disarm the populace. These scandals will just be another intolerable act burned into in the hearts of free men subjected to this growing tyranny.

“But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”

Agree with you Cole. The average American can not see what will happen in 24 hours, much less one year, so they don’t understand consequences for the future. As long as they have a reasonable income and no one interferes with their comfort level, then they don’t care.

  5. Veritas says:

Yes and the IRS scandal is a ploy to distract us from Benghazi and the Benghazi scandal is a plot to distract us from gun running, and the gun running scandal is a plot to distract us from our queer pedophile ambassador in Belgium.

Let’s face it we have an uber corrupt government run by a meglomanic and aided and abeted by corrupt and greedy politicians.

As for the American voter, what could distract him from Duck Dynasty, America’s got Talent, or Bridezilla?

  6. Comrade X says:

Whether Snowden is a traitor or hero is an issue to itself, and should be dealt with separately. He knew what he was doing when he did what he did and the potential liability of those actions.

However at this point in time his disclosure of widespread spying on American’s by the NSA has not been denied and now seems to be defended as needed. That is the real issue to be focused on along with everything else; IRS, Benghazi, Fast & furious, Drones, Media intimidation, the State scandals, etc etc and all of the lies associated & related to/by this corrupt regime.

Where’s there smoke there’s most likely is fire, in this case however it appears to be under this smoke our goose is getting cooked by an inferno directly from hell!

    Death before slavery!

  7. Fu#kObama says:

I would guess that none of these ‘scandals’ will go anywhere. The spineless GOP leadership , namely BONER, refuses to appoint a independant council to investigate and prosecute….

As I said before, nothing to see here just move along….

  8. Doug Rink says:

So many things in motion, it’s hard to figure which is more important. That said, with all the scandal distractions, the immigration reform efforts are moving right along in Congress with only a fraction of the attention it would be getting otherwise.

So, yes. It’s possible we’re being played.

  9. Poshboy says:

To illustrate this well-reasoned article, you picked a nice pix of Fire Control Towers 5 and 5 at Fort Miles, Del. How they have managed to stay up over 70 years of pounding surf, only God knows.

  10. DAN III says:

At a minimum Jarrett is behind the IRS issue. However, I’m guessing the illegal Kenyan is up to his floppy ears in these crimes. Hell, he managed to dodge the Constitution’s natural-born presidential requirement. Our patriotic Congress has refused to indict Holder or floppy ears on any one of numerous issues. Why would he give a flaming rat’s ass about following any law ? He is above the law….and what “law” is going to put him in Leavenworth ?

The entire federal government is awash is treason and treachery. Verify your zero. It coming down to trouble.

  11. david7134 says:

I am listening to a series of lectures from The Teaching Company on personal liberty. It turns out that we have very, very little freedom in this country. There is certainly no such thing as personal autonomy. Much of this lack of freedom comes from concepts in the Constitution that we misinterpret, at least the average person does, most lawyers and others that study politics seem to be aware of this situation. But I think we really got off track in 1860. It was actually the South that was fighting for freedom, not the US fighting to end slavery. It is time to renew the fight.

  12. Frankly, I think all of the illegal activity of this government is important, and they all stem from the same ugly idea: total domination and control of the population of the United States for the purpose of fundamentally transforming it.

What a boon is the apparatus of the surveillance state for an administration that wants to punish its enemies, get judges and justices to change their decisions at the last minute, and keep reporters in line. All of this is every bit as illegal as:

The IRS, with its own police force and courts is the perfect Gestapo instrument to punish those who step out of line and “betray” this administration by horror of horrors, actually expecting that it obey the Constitution and stop harassing the citizenry.

Benghazi and the current ramp up to war in Syria–a war in which we are supporting those who wish to destroy us–show a careful (you read that right) disregard for the integrity of our military, and demonstrates their desire to weaken the United States before our enemies, in order that we are not prepared for the coming world war.

The various scandals of the hour–such as the nefarious behavior of the Secret Service and the State Department Security Service–demonstrates the corruption and low level of personal morals among public servants, and the low regard senior officials have for the integrity and uprightness of their services.

All of these things are of a piece and say something very serious about where the government of our country is, how disdainful of our rights they are, and how diabolical are their schemes against our liberty.

Frankly, in all of their dealings, this government appears to be very similar to the NAZIs: in their obsessive hatred of liberty, in their sexual and personal immoralities, in their need for control over every aspect of our lives. We must firmly oppose all of it, and recognize that it all stems from the roots of the same poisoned tree, and will ultimately produce the same poisoned fruit.

The only way to counter such evil is through our love of one another, and a willingness to put our lives on the line for our liberty.

““Ace” at Ace of Spades has built one of the more successful political blogs on a balanced combination of snark, community-building (who else can can boast of a community that proudly/ironically calls themselves “morons?”) and very insightful observations that a lot of folks simply miss.”

I cannot quite forgive Ace or Bryan Preston for the massive smear job they joined in back in January 2012 when Ron Paul was embarassing the GOP Establishment by getting very large support from the active duty military the ‘Paulbots’ supposedly hated. I never miss an opportunity at PJM to remind Preston that he was just fine with Crazy Old Uncle Ron when he ran the Texas GOP but suddenly turned on him at PJM when Ron ran for President the 2nd time. And now it turns out even Mark Levin who couldn’t stand anyone calling in supporting Paul during the Iowa primary suddenly saying NSA does matter.

Look, forget Ace. He’s engaged in the same kind of ‘get back into the big GOP tent’ dialing back I saw El Rushbo do when Rush called the Obama Administration a ‘coup’ last week and praised Snowden’s maturity. So apparently Rush has been given a stern talking to by someone, now he wants to discuss Snowden as if his revelations existed in a vacuum, and had not been confirmed by Binney, Bamford, other leakers/reporters, or for that matter, the EU report on Echelon ten years ago. The difference now is that the NSA’s capabilities had not been paired with an Administration so brazen and in our faces about its tyranny. Dubya paved the way but Obama has built the rotten house.

Watch this video from someone who gets it far better:

  14. Mr. X says:

“Benghazi and the current ramp up to war in Syria–a war in which we are supporting those who wish to destroy us–show a careful (you read that right) disregard for the integrity of our military, and demonstrates their desire to weaken the United States before our enemies, in order that we are not prepared for the coming world war.”

It also shows the desire on this Administration to ramp up Oceania’s conflict with Eurasia (Russia, Assad’s chief armorer/lender) and Eastasia (China w/Snowden). That is surely the fastest way to get all the Repub dupes back onto the GOP reservation from the tea party and stop worrying so much about their own government. Scare em’ with the old eternal Cold War enemies. And I’m not saying China isn’t an enemy. But it’s an enemy that would’ve never been built up without the complicity of the American elites. Or for that matter, go back to Armand Hammer and Henry Ford’s dealings with the USSR and building up the Soviets. Or the secret aid by the Wilson Administration to Lenin at the start.

  15. Mr. X says:

“The NSA scandal may be much ado about policy without criminality, distracting us from the real scandal an Administration that may have criminally abused their power across multiple Executive Branch agencies in order to effectively “steal” an election.” Sorry Bob respectfully disagree. NSA data mining has been contributing directly to the mother of all databases Maxine Waters bragged about Obama having.
