Tracy Martin, alleged Crips gang member and father of failed attempted murderer Trayvon Martin, met with the Congressional Black Caucus yesterday to argue for laws that would make it easier for criminals like his dead son to carry out violence without repercussions:
Tracy Martin, the father of the late Trayvon Martin, appeared on Capitol Hill on Wednesday for the first time since George Zimmerman’s non-guilty verdict, advocating for a positive legacy of his son’s death.“People tell you that no positive can come out of death, but I disagree wholeheartedly,” said Martin. “Because it is what we can do tomorrow as a nation, as a people, to stop someone else’s child from being killed. That’s certainly a positive.”
Martin was speaking at the first hearing of the Congressional Caucus of Black Men and Boys, a group started to discuss how society can fix issues that disproportionately affect African-American males, such as racial profiling, employment opportunities and the quality of education.
Speakers repeatedly brought up amending or repealing stand-your-ground laws.
“We believe there should be an amendment to the stand-your-ground law that simply says you cannot be the initial aggressor,” said Benjamin Crump, the Martins’ attorney. “You cannot start the confrontation. You cannot pick the fight, and then shoot the person, put your hands in the air and say, ‘I was standing my ground.’”
Let’s be very, very explicit here.
Both George Zimmerman and Rachel Jeantel tell the same story. Trayvon Martin was the initial aggressor, throwing the first punch of the confrontation, and all subsequent punches as well. At no point in the sequence of events that led up to Trayvon’s shooting was George Zimmerman ever an aggressor for even a fraction of a moment.
Likewise, Stand Your Ground laws bore no role in an incident where a young thug lurked in the darkness for four minutes, ambushed his victim from behind, sucker-punched him, mounted him, and made retreat an impossibility. From a legal perspective this was about as cut-and-dried of a self-defense shooting as you can expect, a textbook case in which Stand Your Ground law never applied.
The violent temper of Trayvon Martin and his love of violence that the jury didn’t get to hear about, revealed in the text messages on his phone, are what led to his death, not gun laws. Tellingly, Tracy Martin and the Congressional Black Caucus didn’t discuss Trayvon’s long history of fighting, his temper and bloodlust to hurt others, in their press conference. They didn’t talk about how Trayvon wanted to fight someone he’d recently beat down a second time, because he “didn’t bleed enough” the first time.
They didn’t discuss the multiple conversations Trayvon Martin had just days before his death, where he discussed buying and selling illegally-acquired handguns, including the sale of a .22 revolver, and the attempted purchase of a .38 Special revolver and a Smith & Wesson Sigma 9mm pistol. If the expert was correct, two of those conversations were with family members… and a conservative blog suspects one of those conversations about illegal guns was with Tracy Martin himself.
Trayvon Martin was no innocent boy.
He was a young man from a broken home, shunted from one pretend mother to another as Tracy Martin went through a long string of “baby mommas.” Trayvon abused drugs, including marijuana and a street drug called “lean” that can lead to psychotic breaks. As a matter of fact, Trayvon had measurable amounts of THC (from marijuana) in his system that medical examiner Shiping Bao says could have affected his behavior, giving credence to Zimmerman’s behavioral (not racial) profiling of Trayvon as he lurked in the shadows near homes, apparently looking in windows, instead of walking on the sidewalk.
The Arizona Watermelon fruit drink and Skittles candy that Trayvon purchased from the convenience store were, according to his own social media accounts, 2/3s of Trayvon’s favorite way to get high; add DXM or codeine-based cough syrup, and you have the recipe for “lean.” Trayvon was apparently high when he encountered George Zimmerman and may have been on his way to get higher. The medical examiner’s report noted that Trayvon had an unusually fatty liver for someone his age, which is also consistent with”lean” abuse.
This absurd meeting on Capitol Hill exists for one reason: to disarm law-abiding citizens so that violent criminals like a gang-member father and his dead son can use violence against innocent victims unopposed.
Call it a “Victims Disarmament Act.”
Call it a “Thug Protection Act.”
Call it a “Make the Streets Safe for Our Failed Violent Culture Act.”
This isn’t about protecting innocent young men from predators. This is 100% about protecting criminals in the commission of violent crimes.
