Electrical grid attack in Arkansas

Written By: Bob - Oct• 08•13

Someone has been a bad boy.

I’m not sure what the perpetrator is doing beyond what is described in the article that suggests he or she has¬†“‘above-average’ electrical skills.”

Then again, FBI ¬†assuredly isn’t telling CNN everything.

    Tractors and trains for sabotage. Someone is kicking it up a notch. Was reading a story about electrical problems at that NSA base in Utah. Pictures showed a nice electrical substation out in the open. About 100 yards from the fence line. Maybe 200 yards from an elevated vantage point. It’s amazing how much the electrical grid is a weak point throughout the United States.

    Read the comments if you’d like to see raw, naked bigotry on display. If you live in AR, you must be inbred. If you believe in limited gov’t, you must be a terrorist. If you’re not on OUR TEAM you’re a murderer, full of hatred (while our vehement attacks against you are actually just mild disdain!).

  3. Phelps says:

    Looks like probing to develop the techniques. I also note that they are using things that can’t be readily restricted without throwing the rest of the economy into shambles.

    I think the FBI has a real problem on their hands. I think that the electrical skills part is that they are hitting relatively unknown checkpoints, suggesting that they have detailed knowledge of the grid topography. After all, 10K homes with 2 poles is a pretty good haul for not even hitting a substation. They knew which two poles had 10K homes on them with no redundancy.

    I think I remember reading an article once on how soft a target our grid is;

      Everyone keeps waiting for the OTHER SIDE to start the revolution. Nobody wants (nor should want) to take the first move. Jaw jaw is better than war war.

    Since half the population are totally clueless about electricity “above average electrical skills” doesn’t take much. However I’d say anyone who messes with High Voltage transmission lines and doesn’t kill themselves in the process is either very lucky or has a good idea what they’re doing.

    Someone’s either practicing for our cold civil war to turn hot or they happen to be a disgruntled ex employee who’s causing some very expensive mischief.
